While reading the Rolling Stones edition of the Rough Guide series of books on Rock’s Icons, Marianne Faithfull was predominantly mentioned. In the early \60s – Mick and Marianne were seen as Rock Royalty.

Her career faded due to a decade-long heroin addiction – she was homeless, living on the streets. and her voice changed from deeply angelic to a unique strong angel who went from top to bottom dnd lived to tell the tale..
Chris Blackwell of Island records seventually heard a demo of a song called “Broken English” sung byMarianne Faithfull snd signed her to the abel. Her ’79 release was her seventh studio album; “Broken English”. it lreceived critical acclaim. It peaked at number 82 on the Billboard 200, becoming her first album to chart in the United States since Go Away from My World (1965) and giving Faithfull a first nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance. It reached number 57 in the United Kingdom and entered the top five in Germany, France and New Zealand.The album was included on NME magazine’s list of “500 Greatest Albums of All Time” and in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
