EXPERIENCE ROCK HISTORY!
ROBIN TROWER – TWICE REMOVED FROM YESTERDAY – April 1973
Some albums, songs or even sounds connect with your psyche and when they do its like you’ve waited all your life to finally hear them and the feeling is the closest thing to experiencing a perfect environment for your soul.
00individual has been blessed to have experienced quite a few of these karmic sonic yearnings and at the top of the list was Angelo Badalamenti’s score(s) for David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks” series.
When you hear this special personal music it’s like finding lost pieces of yourself that you didn’t know were missing until you hear them, and then repeated listenings are needed for survival.
Robin Trower’s “Twice Removed From Yesterday” is a perfect example of this phenomenon.
From early Procol Harum up through their great albums “Home” and “Broken Barricades”, 00individual was a huge fan of the band and of Trower’s guitar contributions and stand-out tracks; “Song For A Dreamer”, “Poor Mohammed”, “About To Die” and “Whiskey Train“.
Trower’s guitar prowess was an alluring driving force that, like a wild stallion, needed to be set free. So when he left Procol Harum and went power-trio with James Dewar and Reg Isadore, the planets were in alignment for the creation of these epic Hard Rock Space Blues tracks on this Monumental Rock Album.
Throughout Trower’s career comparisons to Hendrix always arise, it’s inescapable, he even humbly admits to it and wrote/dedicated “Song For A Dreamer” to Jimi, “the Man”, as he calls him. But 00 must say that Ihe\s always “felt” Trower’s total uniqueness, as many have, and is why he is so loved all over the world.

Back in ’73 00 was living in Inglewood and was at the tail-end of his Record and Tape Rack Jobber jobby-job where he’d get promo copies of just about any album he wanted and can remember the day that he got a copy of “Twice Removed From Yesterday”. As he held that album’s gorgeous front and back cover concept art in his hands he would soon find that the the mood of the covers went through the cardboard and paper liner and into the vinyl!
00 played it as soon as he got home from jobbin’ and after playing both sides of this album a truly obscene amount of times, it eventually became a vital part of his life ever since.
Even though Trower out-did himself with his next album, “Bridge of Sighs”; his debut has always been a perfectly-timed landmark album on the Rock ‘n’ Roll ride of 00\s lifetime that created a very cool and groovy feeling in his soul.
TWICE REMOVED FROM YESTERDAY
1. I Can’t Wait Much Longer – ripped 00 to “the blues rock depths of hard soulful art” shreds.
2. Daydream – amped-up symbiotic version of “Song For A Dreamer” and a truly exceptional song.
3. Hannah – 00individual must’ve under-appreciated this song as it is now his fourth favorite of this album!
4. Man Of The World – Hippie natives rocked to this driving “Grapevine” riff.
5. I Can’t Stand It – seriously one of Rock’s Best Vocalists, James Dewar was a perfect match for Trower’s blues-based trio.
6. Rock Me Baby – blues standard given the “Trower Treatment”.
7. Twice Removed From Yesterday – the best homage to Jimi in lyric, composition, concept and performance by all three.
8. Sinner’s Song – a work-out for drummer Reg Isodore and an excellent display of relentless righteous Rock aggression!
9. Ballerina – a heartfelt track to end this amazing album – one of 00individual’s all-time favorites!

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL – THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH!
No need to search for the legendary Fountain of Youth, Rockers world-wide have had access to it all along – that Fountain of Youth is Rock ‘n’ Roll!
Watching, listening, and rockin’ to Robin Trower last night with the Canyon Club’s sold out capacity of 1600 brought some insightful revelations to 00individual’s awareness.
These revelations were more like deep confirmations of the fact that his generation’s positive youth-minded experiences during the ’60s and ’70s of their Rockin’ Youthful Free-Spirited Lifestyle carried throughout the decades of their everyday lives and into the present – not for all – but for most of those who reveled in the Vibe – this kept them young.
A prime example of the regenerative powers of Rock’s Fountain of Youth is none other than Rock Guitar God Robin Trower.
At 75, Trower is an unstoppable inspiration, not just for his incredible teenage stamina, and not just as a soulfully-meticulous Guitar God, but for his exuberance and joy that he warmly displays, that is evident and contagious, which in turn invigorates the Soul of those Rockers fortunate to see this exceptional Man’s gift live.
His Rock Stock continues to rise, year after year, as a true pillar among the Historic Rock Gods.
Unlike past generations, the Counter-Culture, Hippies, and Individuals didn’t lose their youthful sensibilities – society’s “old age” was not, is not, in their future, and it was/is the Rock ‘n’ Roll Fountain of Youth that keeps them young at heart, mind, body, and soul – Trower is proof, The Stones are proof, Dick Dale was/is proof, and 00individual, this month at 70, is proof.
On the short drive to the local Canyon, Trower’s title track from For Earth Below came to mind, but 00individual felt that it was too esoteric to ever hear live – imagine his karmic cosmic surprise when after the encore of Too Rolling Stoned Trower finished the evening with For Earth Below.
Sigh.
Canyon Club Setlist: Somebody Calling, Rise Up Like The Sun, See My Life, Daydream, Lady Love, Snakes and Ladders, Day of the Eagle, Bridge of Sighs, Confessin’ Midnight, The Turning, Not Inside – Outside, Little Bit of Sympathy
Encore: Too Rolling Stoned, For Earth Below
After the concert was over 00individual walked out into the night; invigorated, empowered, and filled with youthful spirit – reminiscent of the many, many nights of experiencing the same feelings after classic concerts of the ’60s and of the ’70s.
Rock, the Fountain of Youth?
Damn Right!
